Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced and technically strong Tool Design & Development Manager for our newly established Copper Cable Lugs & Sheet Metal Division. The ideal candidate will independently design, develop, and improve tooling for copper terminals, cable lugs, sheet metal components, and progressive dies from concept through production support.

The candidate should have hands-on expertise in:

  • Progressive die design
  • Sheet metal tooling
  • Copper component manufacturing
  • Press tool development
  • 2D & 3D design using AutoCAD and SolidWorks

Key Responsibilities

Tool Design & Development

  • Design and develop:
    • Progressive dies
    • Compound dies
    • Piercing and bending tools
    • Forming tools
    • Copper lug tooling
    • Sheet metal press tools
  • Create:
    • 2D manufacturing drawings
    • 3D models and assemblies
    • Tool layouts and strip layouts
    • Bill of Materials (BOMs) and tooling documentation
  • Develop tooling for:
    • Copper cable lugs
    • Copper terminals
    • Sheet metal brackets and components
    • Battery lugs
    • Busbar components
  • Optimize material utilization and reduce production costs.
  • Coordinate with:
    • Production team
    • Tool Room
    • Quality department
    • Vendors and machine suppliers
  • Support trial production, troubleshooting, and tooling modifications.
  • Ensure tooling meets production targets for:
    • Tool life
    • Productivity and cycle time
    • Quality
  • Lead new product development (NPD) activities.
  • Mentor junior tool designers and Tool Room technicians.

Required Skills

  • Strong technical knowledge of:
    • Progressive die design
    • Press tool design
    • Copper forming processes
    • Sheet metal manufacturing
    • Metal stamping operations
  • Software proficiency:
    • AutoCAD (2D Drafting & 3D Modelling)
    • SolidWorks (2D Drafting & 3D Modelling)
  • Knowledge of:
    • GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing)
    • Tolerance standards
    • Material selection
    • Strip layout optimization
    • Press calculations
    • Tool steel selection
  • Experience with power press tooling and high-volume manufacturing.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.

Qualifications

  • B.E. Mechanical Engineering, Tool Engineering, or Diploma in Tool Engineering.
  • Tool & Die Making certification is preferred.

Experience

  • 5–10 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in one or more of the following industries:
    • Copper cable lug manufacturing
    • Electrical terminals
    • Sheet metal stamping
    • Progressive die manufacturing

Preferred Candidate Profile

  • Strong practical experience in tooling design and development.
  • Hands-on shop floor exposure.
  • Leadership and team management capabilities.
  • Strong communication and vendor coordination skills.
  • Ability to establish tooling systems for a Greenfield manufacturing division.
